Sustainability Strategy Peer Learning Group

Applications for the 2024 SDG Pioneer program are now open!

Each year, we celebrate the remarkable efforts of business professionals who are driving positive change by advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and embodying the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. These individuals, known as SDG Pioneers, play a crucial role in inspiring action and showcasing the power of business to create a sustainable future for all.

As part of the 2024 UN Global Compact SDG Pioneers program, UN Global Compact Network USA is searching for individuals who exemplify dedication, innovation, and leadership in advancing the SDGs.

The UN Global Compact Network USA will award two 2024 Global Compact Network USA SDG Pioneers this year. One to represent Small & Medium-sized enterprises (<250 employees), and one to represent Large National & Multi-National Companies. Please note that companies must have submitted at least 1 CoP and be a signatory since October 1, 2023 to be eligible for this opportunity. The selected individuals will then have the opportunity to participate in the final search of Global SDG Pioneers and to be recognized during the 2024 UN General Assembly in September in New York.

Apply now before May 15, 2024 and please contact Caitlin McGinnis at caitlin@globalcompactusa.org for any inquiries. For additional information, visit https://unglobalcompact.org/sdgs/sdgpioneers/.

The Sustainability Strategy Peer Learning Group (PLG) convenes a cohort of companies to exchange practical insights and real-world approaches to building and advancing sustainability strategies. Through four interactive, peer-driven sessions, each anchored by a company case study, participants explore how peers define material priorities, translate strategy into action, collect and manage sustainability data, and measure and communicate impact.

The program welcomes interest from small and medium-sized companies that are continuing to mature their sustainability practices. Participation is limited to approximately 10 U.S. companies and acceptance into the PLG is accepted on a first come, first served basis. Applications will be open from February 2, 2026 through April 6, 2026.

Sessions Overview

Session 1 – Developing a Sustainability Strategy: Defining What’s Material (May 12, 2026)

In this first session, participants explore how companies determine which sustainability issues matter most to their business, stakeholders, and mission. The session covers approaches to stakeholder engagement, materiality assessments, and aligning sustainability priorities with corporate purpose and values.

Session 2 – Implementing a Strategy: Moving from Goals to Action (June 16, 2026)

This session examines how companies translate strategy into day-to-day operations, set targets, build internal alignment, and establish accountability. Participants will discuss practical steps for embedding sustainability into decision-making across functions.

Session 3 – Data Collection & Tools (July 14, 2026)

Participants will explore how companies design systems for collecting and managing sustainability data, including internal systems, tools, and governance structures that support both strategy tracking and external reporting.

Session 4 – Measuring Impact & Communicating Progress (August 11, 2026)

The final session focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of sustainability strategies, refining goals based on outcomes, and communicating progress to internal and external stakeholders. Participants discuss how reporting and disclosure can be used to demonstrate impact and build trust.
