UN Global Compact Launches New Tool to Help Companies Assess and Advance Non-discrimination and Equality in the Workplace
New York, United States of America
The United Nations Global Compact has launched a new Non-Discrimination and Equality Analysis Tool to help businesses evaluate and improve their performance in promoting inclusive and equitable workplaces. This user-friendly, anonymous self-assessment tool supports companies in identifying gaps, tracking progress, and embedding non-discrimination and equality policies and practices across their operations.
Non-discrimination is a core human right, enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and reflected in Principles 1 and 6 of the UN Global Compact. As the private sector steps up its role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing inequality in the workplace is not only a moral imperative — it is also a business priority.
“Companies have both a responsibility and a powerful opportunity to foster workplaces where everyone can thrive — regardless of race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, or background. This tool will help companies assess where they stand and what more they can do to embed non-discrimination and equality in their culture and operations,” said Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact.
The Non-discrimination & Equality Analysis Tool walks users through a structured set of questions across thirteen performance areas, offering a confidential, data-driven way to assess policies and practices that impact equality in the workplace. It provides a platform for continuous improvement and helps businesses align with international standards and legal frameworks, while also unlocking the proven benefits of workforce diversity.
Studies continue to show that companies with diverse leadership and equitable, inclusive policies outperform peers in terms of innovation, employee engagement, and financial returns. By ensuring equal opportunity for all workers and jobseekers, companies can enhance their brand, attract top talent, and contribute to a fairer, more sustainable global economy.
The Non-discrimination & Equality Analysis Tool is available free of charge to all companies and can be accessed through the initiative’s digital platforms.
